Title case rules used by this tool
Title Case capitalizes the important words in a title. This tool keeps short articles, conjunctions and prepositions in lowercase (such as a, an, the, and, but, or, for, of, in, on, at, to, by), unless they are the first or last word, which are always capitalized. Hyphenated words are capitalized on both sides, as in "Built-In". Style guides such as AP, Chicago, APA and MLA differ slightly on minor words, so check your own guide if you need an exact style. If you want every word capitalized, use "Capitalize Each Word".

Frequently asked questions
What is title case?
Title case capitalizes the main words of a title or headline while keeping small words such as "of", "the" and "and" in lowercase, except at the start and end.
What is the difference between title case and sentence case?
Title case capitalizes most words, as in "How to Write a Good Headline". Sentence case capitalizes only the first word and proper nouns, as in "How to write a good headline".
How do I fix text typed in all caps?
Paste it into the box and click "lowercase" or "Sentence case". Sentence case also capitalizes the first letter of each sentence.
Will names and acronyms keep their capital letters?
Not in the lowercase, Title Case and Sentence case modes. They convert all letters first, so names such as "NASA" or "London" may need a quick manual fix afterward. "Capitalize Each Word" leaves the other letters as they are.
Does the case converter work with accented letters and other languages?
Yes. It handles accented letters and non-English alphabets, for example é, ü, ñ and Cyrillic or Greek text. Scripts that have no upper and lower case, such as Chinese, stay unchanged.
Is my text uploaded or stored?
No. The tool is free and everything runs in your browser. Your text is never uploaded to a server or stored.
